Für ihr Projekt "Effective theories for quasi-crystalline microstructures" stehen der Forscherin aus der Arbeitsgruppe von Frau Prof. Davoli ab 2025 für 3 Jahre Fördergelder zur Verfügung. Nachfolgend hat Frau D'Elia ihren Forschungsschwerpunkt kurz zusammengefasst:

Quasi-crystals are fascinating materials with a peculiar fine structure: it is ordered but exhibit neither periodicity nor randomness. This peculiarity together with their unique properties make quasi-crystalline materials attractive in many applications ranging from engineering to Materials Science. 

A rigorous understanding of how the aperiodic microstructures affect the macroscopic behavior of quasi-crystalline composites is required to take advantage of the extraordinary features of this new class of materials. The proposal will carry out an effective analysis of quasi-crystalline media adopting a variational approach.
